Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery
The stomach is stapled to create a small pouch, which limits the quantity of food that can be consumed at one time after surgery. The small bowel is divided and joined to this stomach pouch at a calculated level. The proximal portion of the small intestine is bypassed to prevent food from coming into contact with digestive juices. This arrangement further decreases the absorption of food and also helps in resolving other problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, joint pain, and more.
